Calla Lilies
watercolor 11x30

I believe that each of us has a spark of creativity.  That creativity needs only to be nourished and developed.  Some express this in music, dance, housekeeping or business.  I have found that my spark ignites when I paint.  I try only to capture a little of the natural beauty around us.  I hope, that when you look at my pictures, you also can see the sense of peace and beauty that I am trying to portray.

After retiring from the University of North Texas Claude's interest in watercolor painting began with a Martha Robbins workshop in 1992.  Claude believes that good teachers will greatly influence what you become.  Martha motivated him to continue and since then he has studied under many local and national artists.  His paintings have been accepted and awarded in numerous exhibits around Texas and are in personal collections in many states.

Su Casa
watercolor 15x11

The strong sunlit patterns of the southwest give the artist an opportunity to use the full spectrum of lights and darks.  It also lets you work with a range of temperature.

Quartzite Treasures
watercolor 30x22

The myriad of patterns and colors provided by this table loaded with colorful beads may give this painting an underwater feeling.  All the 'movement' of the strings of beads gives your eye so much to follow and explore.

October Reunion
watercolor 30x22

Color value and texture combine to offer a playful composition.  I liked the unique expressions on each face.  Does it make you feel happy when you look at them?

Rhododendrons
casein 22x30

The water medium 'casein' was used here to give a more matte like quality to the painting.  Flowers, with their vast variety of shapes and colors, give a never ending source of inspiration to many artists.

Shadows
watercolor 11x30

One of the tasks of the artist is to find the color in ordinary things.  Shadows on the 'white' rocks also provide texture to the painting.  Rocks are one of my favorite subject matters for, like most things in nature, there are no two alike.

Encounter
watercolor 22x15

The artist tries to let the viewer be a part of the painting.  This painting was done after a visit to Seattle.  What do you see is happening?  E-mail me and see if you interpret it the same way I do.

Utah  Reflections
watercolor 30x22

Early morning or evening light offer such a wide variety of exciting colors.  When they are reflected in the still waters of the lake your pleasures are doubled.
