June Impson is a Professor Emeritus from the
Texas Woman's University. Although she paints in several media, her
current preference involves a unique technique she has devised through
experimentation, trial and error. She would be the first to say, "Lots
of error!" She uses discarded watercolor paintings, coats them with a
mixture of matt medium, marble dust, and water. Over that dried
surface she loosely sketches her composition with charcoal, mostly ignoring
the previous watercolor painting that softly shows through the rough marble dust
undercoat. She then washes in color with gouache and/or watercolor,
still largely ignoring the previous painting that shows through. Over
this dried surface she then creates the final pastel painting.
