Deadline for entries for the 2010 national exhibition is December 31. The exhibition is scheduled April 22 - May 31, 2010. Image night will be Thursday, January 7, 5:00 – 7:00 pm, immediately preceding our January meeting. We will have our 3rd Annual Pizza Party thanks to J&J’s Pizza on the square.
Juror for 2010 is Melissa Miller. Miller is widely known for her expressionistic paintings which use animals as metaphors for human dramas and dilemmas. Her recent works focus on the ways humans are altering animal habitats and behavior. Over the last thirty years, she has exhibited work at many of the major museums in the United States and has been included in the Whitney Biennial, the Corcoran Biennial, and the Venice Biennale.
Miller has received many honors for her work, including three National Endowment for the Arts fellowships and an award from the Anonymous Was a Woman Foundation, as well as twice being named "Texas Artist of the Year." Her work has been collected by many prominent museums, including the Museum of Modern Art, the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the National Museum of Women in the Arts, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Albright-Knox Gallery in Buffalo, New York, the Dallas Museum of Art, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Melissa Miller lives in Austin, where she is Associate Professor of Art at the University of Texas at Austin.
