Don Schol, a noted sculptor, is Professor of Art and Associate Dean for Administrative Affairs, School of Visual Arts, University of North Texas.  He received his BA in Philosophy in 1963 with an art minor from the University of Dallas; in 1966 he completed his MFA in Sculpture and Drawing at the University of Texas at Austin.  Drafted into the U.S. Army, he served in Vietnam in the Combat Artist Program within the Office of Military History producing drawings, watercolors and sculptures.  He joined the UNT art faculty in 1969; he set up the school's photography program and taught drawing, design, art appreciation and sculpture.

Since 1979 he has focused professionally on sculpture, particularly commissioned hand-carved wooden liturgical pieces for churches in Texas.  he exhibits both sculpture and prints at national and international exhibitions.  Currently his solo exhibition, Grain of Thought, is touring several Texas venues.  he lives in Argyle, Texas, where he and his artist-wife, Pamela Burnley-Schol, maintain a full-time studio practice.
