VAST awards prizes to exhibition winnersBy Lucinda Breeding / Arts & Entertainment EditorThe Visual Arts Society of Texas gave $11,124 worth of cash and prizes to the winners of its 36th Annual Juried Fine Arts Exhibition, which opened last Sunday. Marlys Lamar won Best of Show with her oil on wood, "Not Knowing When the Dawn Will Come, I Open Every Door." The best of show award, the Greater Denton Arts Council award, is a $1,000 cash prize. The exhibit will run through May 27 in the Meadows Gallery at the Center for the Visual Arts, 400 E. Hickory St. in Denton. Gallery hours are 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday. More than 400 slides were submitted to the contest, and 60 artists were selected.
