Acclaimed watercolorist Stephen Zhang will teach a two day workshop for VAST at the Patterson Appleton Art Center. His "Critical Foundations for Watercolor Portraits" will be Friday and Saturday, March 28th and 29th. There he will continue demonstrating and teaching the foundational skills needed to create portraits in watercolor.

Cost $350 for Members, $380 Non-Members
$100 required to reserve, a balance of$250 ($280 for non-members) is due by October 1.

Born in China, Stephen graduated from Lu Xun Academy of Fine Arts and received
his MFA from the University of North Texas.
He is currently an assistant professor in
Communication Design at UNT.
Stephen’s artwork has received widespread recognition both nationally and
internationally, winning awards from prestigious exhibitions organized by the American
Watercolor Society, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America USA, American
Illustration and the Chinese National Art Exhibition, among others. He has won 3 best of
Show in 5 years at Watercolor USA. His work has been featured in publications such as
Watercolor Artist, American Art Collector, Art Connoisseur and International Artist.
This is the first of a series of watercolor portrait workshops to be taught by Stephen,
each dealing with an important aspect of the art. The focus of this workshop is on the
fundamentals of watercolor portraiture, including human anatomy, forms, and lighting.
Participants will practice addressing these elements loosely and efficiently with watercolor.
